THERAPEUTIC SERVICES

My goal as a therapist is to develop a relationship with you different from any other you’ve had in your life. My values are trust, honesty and vulnerability. What I find unique about the therapeutic relationship is that I can show up in your life unlike anyone else, free of expectations, never being mad at you, and never once judging. Currently, all individual counseling services are available for adults, both in person and virtual in North Carolina.

WHAT I CAN HELP YOU WITH

RELIGIOUS AND CHILDHOOD TRAUMA

Trauma is the impact of an experience you’ve had that has felt particularly disturbing or distressing to you. It’s a deeply personal definition, and there is no experience too small to treat with trauma-informed care. The residual effects of traumatic experiences and memories of them can show up in our lives in an abundance of ways. Sometimes we might find ourselves feeling unsatisfied in relationships and noticing behaviors we later regret, or perhaps wanting to experience intimacy but feeling like we’re stuck in a bad memory. We can even be left reeling, feeling like our entire worldview is shattered after leaving a religion you grew up in. One way I help you navigate these types of presenting issues is through EMDR. EMDR is a method empirically-proven to transform the way in which you hold negative or traumatic memories.

HIGH SELF CRITICISM

After doing this work for a few years, I’ve noticed that an overwhelming majority of people don’t even register how poorly they speak to and about themselves. Far more often than not, you’d never speak about someone you love that way. Common ways people develop low self-esteem include being “parentified”, where children take on adult responsibilities prematurely, experiencing invalidation of their feelings and experiences, and navigating life unaware of their neurodiversity. These challenges can profoundly impact one's sense of self-worth and overall mental health. Here I take a Jungian and psychodynamic approach, which encourages you to look inward at the experiences in your life that developed the messages you believe about yourself. I can help you restore the most important relationship in your life–the one with yourself.

ANXIETY (general, social, panic)

Anxiety can show up in us in several different ways. Most commonly we see social anxiety, performance anxiety, or even generalized anxiety in which it can be extremely difficult to not catastrophize day-to-day behaviors. At its core, anxiety is a fear response, and by working together, I can help uncover those fears and assist you in leading a life with self-assuredness. I use internal family systems (IFS), which is less about your family, and more about the internal “parts” of you that make up who you are. There are no bad parts, and as we explore these parts and experiences, I encourage you to not judge them.

“Changing the memories that form the way we see ourselves also changes the way we view others. Therefore, our relationships, job performance, what we are willing to do or are able to resist, all move in a positive direction.”

— Francine Shapiro, founder of EMDR
